Victims & Survivors
People who have been abused in childhood learn to interpret
and respond to both the world themselves in a way that is different
from those who have not been abused. Research also shows that
with certain kinds of abuse and/or prolonged abuse, the brain
can actually develop differently than non-abused people. Therapy
provides the opportunity for a person to understand the lenses
through which they interpret and respond to the world; to find
ways to resolves issues from the past; and to learn new ways to
interpret, understand and respond to the outside world as well
as themselves.
While understanding both the self and the world differently does
not make the world a perfect place to live in, it does provide
new tools and coping mechanisms that make interacting with the
world more effective. Learn how to be more effective rather than
inadvertly continuing to replay the old ineffective tapes and
wondering why life isn't working for you.
